In April of 2004 I became ill with heart problems and had to finish work. At first I lost weight (I think this was due to my medication making me feel ill) but as I began to feel better, the pounds started to pile on! I wanted to cram everything into my life (literally) as I thought that I was going to pop my clogs at any minute! In a strange way being ill did me a favour and made me more aware of how precious life is and how we abuse our bodies with overwork and not looking after ourselves.
I have always struggled with my weight but over the past few years it became even harder as I became older and because I didn't have the discipline of a weigh in I really started to put on the pounds. So I decided to devise my own weight loss programme. I am a very down to earth person so I didn't want the programme to be difficult to understand. So I made it simple and straightforward. But like I said earlier, I wanted to enjoy my life to the full and be able to go out for meals and still lose weight, hence the ‘free day diet' (see About page).
I opened my first meetings in March 2006 and had my first weigh-in with my members. I cannot run weight loss meetings and tell everyone that I have a brilliant programme that works and be overweight myself!! I have to put my money where my mouth is!!!
After the first weigh in I knew I had to knuckle down and get this weight off, not only for myself but for all the members of Slimlines who have put their faith in me. Some weeks I would only lose ½ lb, other weeks 1lb, some weeks I would stay the same. But my philosophy is the take it steady, enjoy your weight loss and enjoy your life!!
The majority of my members are knocking off the lbs at a rate of knots!! But each person is different and as you get older it takes a bit longer but believe me you get there in the end.
Now I am 20lbs lighter and feel 500% better. I have another 20lbs to go to reach my goal weight. I live each day as it comes, and as long as I am losing weight I don't mind how long it takes me.
Lyn's tips for success
1. Tomorrow never comes, so if you need to lose weight, start now!
2. If you like a drink (alcoholic), always have a glass of water with it, as alcohol is very dehydrating (hence several journeys to the loo) This also makes your drinks last longer and avoids a hangover.
3. Get your portion sizes under control. This will get you under control, your weight under control and your life back in control! Start weighing and measuring your foods again. We sell the brilliant scales that calorie up everything for you.
4. Don't miss your meetings, even if you have put weight on. After all its not the end of world, you've just put a bit of weight on, and hopefully we can get you back on track for the following week. If you have bought the programme online and cant get to a meeting, then always weigh yourself, fill in your food diary and be honest. Ring Slimlines if you need any help.
5. Start looking after yourself. Go to the hairdressers, get some new perfume, earrings, go for a beauty treatment etc, Buy some new clothes while you're losing weight. Men, you do the same, a little pampering goes a long way! You don't have to wait until you reach your desired weight to do this, you should enjoy your journey to goal.
6. Try and get a weekend away.
7. Don't do a big shop and have to throw stuff away
8. Always think about what you are going to have for your main meals then shop around them.
9. Make a shopping list! In your Slimlines pack you get a free shopping list pad.
10. The money you save doing points 7, 8, ,9 will enable you to do points 5 and 6!
11. And last but not least enjoy your free day, have what you like on that day, and don't feel guilty. See you in bar, Cheers!
